Context & Challenge

A family home. Scattered heirs. A property frozen for decades. 🏚️

In Martinique and France's overseas territories, thousands of families face a painful
situation: an inherited property, multiple heirs who can't agree — or have lost
touch — and real estate locked in time, impossible to sell, renovate, or pass on.

This is known as joint inheritance (indivision successorale). For years, the
most vulnerable families had neither the means nor the legal tools to break free.

Everything changed with the Letchimy Law of 2018, which now allows these
situations to be resolved by a majority of rights-holders. To bring this law to
life on the ground — and to do so for free — the GIPI (Groupement d'Intérêt
Public pour la Sortie de l'Indivision et pour le Titrement en Martinique) was
established in 2023, under the authority of the French State and the Collectivité
Territoriale de Martinique.

Myriam Ho Hio Hen and her team had a noble mission. They needed a tool worthy of it.

What we built together 🏛️

The GIPI Martinique website is not a simple showcase site. It is a public
information and service platform
that allows every Martinican to:

  • Understand their rights: clear presentation of the Letchimy law, property
    titling, and available legal pathways
  • Identify the financial aid they may be entitled to
  • Access a legal glossary so no one feels lost in the terminology
  • Create and submit their case online directly from the website
  • Access a secure member area to track case progress
  • Contact GIPI easily, with all practical information available

The site serves three distinct audiences — individuals, notaries, and local
authorities — with tailored pathways for each.

"This project reminded us why we do this work. Behind every joint inheritance
case, there is a family, a story, sometimes generations of silent suffering.
Helping Myriam bring this service online meant contributing to something
profoundly human."

How we approached it

Our methodology for this project

1

Immersion & Context Understanding

We took time to understand GIPI's mission, the Letchimy law, and the realities faced by affected Martinican families. A complex legal subject that the website had to make simple and accessible to everyone.

2

Information Architecture

Designed a clear navigation structure for three distinct audiences: individuals, notaries, and local authorities. Each pathway naturally guides users toward action: submitting a case, making contact, or accessing the member area.

3

Design & Visual Identity

Created an institutional graphic identity — clean and reassuring — consistent with the image of a serious public body. The design builds trust with families often overwhelmed by administrative processes.

4

WordPress Development & Features

Built on WordPress with integration of the secure member area, online case submission form, interactive legal glossary, and news module.

5

Launch, Compliance & Training

Deployment, GDPR compliance, privacy policy setup, and hands-on training for the GIPI team on autonomous content and member management.
